La Loba
(2021 - ongoing)

The Loba is an exploration of the feminine soul towards the awareness of the authentic Self.

It represents the beginning of a heroine's journey in her transformation's process to a higher Self, triggered by the awakening of the innate psychic force, embodied in the Wild Woman archetype.

“The wild nature has a vast integrity to it. It means (...) to draw on the innate feminine powers of intuition and sensing to come into one's cycles, to find what one belongs to." Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Women Who Run with the Wolves.

In the folktale of La Loba, the wise old woman wanders in the desert and digs up the bones, to reconstruct the skeleton and bring it back to life. In the same way, by exploring rituals, stories and myths, I search for the structural, sacred parts of the psyche in order to give it back its vigour, allowing its own metamorphosis.

Myths were not created to tell us about the external world, rather to understand the inner world. "The symbols of mythology (...) are spontaneous productions of the psyche, and each bears within it, undamaged, the germ power of its source. (...) Freud and Jung and their followers have demonstrated irrefutably that the logic, the heroes, and the deeds of myth survive into modern times. (...) Each of us has his private, unrecognized, rudimentary, yet secretly potent pantheon of dreams". Joseph Campbell, The Hero with a Thousand Faces.

Beginning with a personal research, from the matrilineal cultural origin, my work extends to a universal investigation of the inner world.

Inspired by the ‘psyche release’ techniques of Gabrielle Roth (5Rhythms Dance) and Pinkola Estés' method, which combines the narration of stories, body memories and oneiric material, I use self-portraiture and intimate performances to tap into archetypal knowledge, transmitted through rituals, folktales and mythology.

The synthesis of my performative process, created by the interaction between the exploration of contents, body action and artistic practice, between long, double exposures and digital processing, becomes a photographic image.

La Loba is an image map, which evokes pathways to return to one's inner world, to listening to one's needs and awakening one's own dormant resources. A starting point to reunite, through reflections, epiphanies and awareness, with one's own essence, stripped of structures, conventions and conditioning.

La Loba is for all women and men who wish to get to know the feminine universe.

It is a work in progress and the first part of a long-term project on the search for the Authentic Self and a return to living according to its values.
